How to spin the wheel

  1. Type your options in the box, one per line, or paste a list.
  2. Press Spin. The wheel slows down and stops on the winner.
  3. Turn on Remove the winner after each spin to draw several people without repeats.

How it’s fair

The winner is chosen before the animation starts, with crypto.getRandomValues, the browser’s cryptographically secure random generator. We use rejection sampling so that every entry has exactly the same chance, then the wheel is animated to land on that entry. The spin speed and stopping point can’t be influenced by when you click.

Your list is saved in this browser so you can come back to it.

What we measured

We ran the same selection code 60,000 times with 6 entries. Every entry was picked between 16.49 % and 16.92 % of the time, close to the ideal 16.67 %. Differences of that size are what chance alone produces over that many draws.

When to use it

Picking a student to answer, a giveaway winner or the order of presentations. Deciding where to eat or what to watch. Assigning chores or teams. Breaking a tie in a fun way at a party or a stream.

For a timed turn after the draw, use Timer, Stopwatch & Pomodoro. For a random password rather than a random name, use Password Generator.

Limits

  • Up to 200 entries; long names are shortened on the wheel but shown in full as the result.
  • Duplicate lines count as separate entries, which is a simple way to give someone two chances.
  • For official lotteries with legal requirements, use a method your rules accept and keep records.

Frequently asked questions

Is the wheel really random?

Yes. The result comes from the browser’s secure random generator, and every entry has an equal chance. The animation only shows the result.

Can I give one option a bigger chance?

Enter it more than once. Each line is one equal slice.

How do I draw several winners?

Turn on Remove the winner after each spin and spin again. The history below lists every result in order.

Is my list saved?

Only in this browser’s local storage, so it’s there next time. Nothing is sent to a server.
