How to convert a PDF to images

  1. Drop a PDF on the page or click Choose file.
  2. Pick a format, a resolution and (optionally) which pages.
  3. Click Convert to images and save them one by one or all at once as a ZIP.

How it works

Each page is drawn by PDF.js, the same engine Firefox uses to display PDFs, onto a canvas at the resolution you choose, then saved as an image. 150 DPI turns an A4 page into about 1240 × 1754 pixels, sharp enough to read on any screen; 300 DPI doubles each side for printing.

JPG gives the smallest files for scans and photos. PNG is lossless, better for pages with thin lines and small text. WebP is in between and works well for websites.

What we measured

Converting all 10 pages of a text-and-photo test PDF to JPG at 150 DPI took 0.52 seconds in Chrome on a 4-core test computer. Each image was about 331 KB. The same pages at 300 DPI took 1.08 seconds, roughly four times the pixels.

Pages are rendered one at a time and the canvas is freed after each one, so even long documents don’t exhaust your phone’s memory.

When to use it

Posting a page of a menu, a flyer or a certificate on social media or in a chat app that doesn’t preview PDFs. Pasting a chart from a report into slides. Uploading a document to a website that accepts only images. Making thumbnails of a portfolio.

If the image is too heavy for an upload form, continue with Compress Image or Bulk Image Resizer, both of which accept the results directly.

Limits

  • Password-protected PDFs can’t be opened.
  • The result is a picture of the page: text in it can’t be selected or searched.
  • Photos inside the PDF are re-rendered, not extracted in their original resolution.
  • Unusual fonts that aren’t embedded in the PDF may be replaced by a similar font.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. PDF.js renders the pages inside your browser, and the images are created on your device.

Which DPI should I choose?

150 DPI for reading on screen or sharing in chats, 300 DPI for printing, 96 DPI when you need small files fast.

Can I convert only some pages?

Yes. Type page numbers or ranges such as 1-3, 5 in the Pages field. Leave it empty for all pages.

How do I get all images at once?

When there’s more than one image, use Download all (ZIP). You can also save single images with the ⬇ button next to each.
